I Almost Made It: Prolific Black Women in the Media
Ms. Alma John, one of the first African-American Women to have a talk show. I had the privilege of going to Ms. John's home in Harlem to interview her. She had stacks of black periodical's and her transcripts from her radio days at WWRL being prepared for the Shomburg Library. Little did I know, one day I would work for the same radio station.
Nell Bassett, a transplant from radio, was another pre-Oprah talk show host. I had the privilege to work on her show, the nationally syndicated, "For You Black Woman". I shot a segment as a co-host. Little did I know they were about to replace Nell with singer, Freda Payne and change the name of the show to, "Today's Black Woman".
